What two Exhibits do they have going on right now?
The two exhibits are WIFREDO LAM in North America and CARLOS LUNA: El Gran Mambo.

What kind of art is located at the museum?
The museum contains mostly contemporary art from Latin American countries. The artists are very well known here and/or in their own country.

The directors name is Gregorio Luke and he was born in Mexico.

1. What does MoLAA stand for?


Museum of Latin American Art

2. What are the video clips about?


The first clip is a general overview of the museum and what it offers
The second clip was about the art itself
The third clip is an interview about the museum with the director

3. What did you learn from the video clips (3 facts per clip; total 9 facts)?


Clip 1:


1. It was founded because there was no Latin America museum in the country
2. There are educational activities and special events often
3. Most of the artists displayed are still living today and very well known in their country


Clip 2:


1. Even though the artists are from different countries, their art is still very similar
2. The museum has not only paintings but sculptures, dioramas, photographs, and mixed media
3. The museum contains contemporary and older art

1. The museum is currently running an exhibit on Cuban artist Carlos Luna that goes through August 31st. The exhibit has 17 paintings that were recently done by the artist.
2. The museum holds an art auction every year where they auction off over 200 paintings, statues, etc. This auction helps fund the museums various events and educational programs.
3. The museum offers Salsa Dance classes every Wednesday for adults and every Tuesday for children. The classes are fairly inexpensive; only $50 for a complete class series.

g) I notice that generally, most people taking this class are fullfilling their GE requirements.

Project 1C

Jessica
1. Jessica is interested in learning more about the culture and values of Latin America and the Caribbean.
2. I learned from Jessica's research that Freire was responsible for education in a city in Latin America and that he is a world leader in the struggle for the liberation of the poorest of the poor.

Nanette
1. Nanette lives about 1 mile from the SRJC
2. From Nanette I learned that Freire believed in an emphasis on dialogue in education and that he was well known for the "Bare Feet Can Also Learn to Read" campaign, where he worked with 300 sugarcane sharecroppers in Angicos.

Project 1B


Paulo Freire

1. Paulo Freire is a Brazilian educationalist who had a great impact on informal and popular education with his ideas of progressive practive. He wrote a book entitled Pedagogy of the Oppressed dealing with the issue of unfit education.
2. One of his beliefs is to help men and women overcome their sense of powerlessness to act in their own behalf.
3. After the military coup d'etat of 1964, Freire was put in jail by the new government and was eventually forced into a political exile that lasted for fifteen years.
